<p class="has-small-font-size"><em>*This is an adapted version of a thread first posted on my Twitter account <a href="https://twitter.com/DrBricenoG" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@DrBricenoG</a></em></p>

<p>A couple of disclaimers before I start. I am more interested in the musical aspects of the show, so most (if not all) of these resources dive into musical analysis and not as much with text or other very important aspects of the musical (choreography, staging, costume design).</p>

<p>This is not an exhaustive list by any means, so there are probably many more interviews, videos, podcasts that are probably very good and informative. So basically this list is some of my favorites and in my opinion very accessible for non-musicians.</p>

<p><strong>1) Hamilton and Motifs: Creating Emotional Paradoxes </strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<div class="nv-iframe-embed"><iframe title="Hamilton and Motifs: Creating Emotional Paradoxes" width="1200" height="675" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yWK1B1EiQ7U?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
</div></figure>

<p> A great video about the motifs in Hamilton and how they transform throughout the musical.</p>

<p><strong>2) Strong Songs Podcast</strong> (by <a href="https://twitter.com/kirkhamilton">@kirkhamilton</a>), “Satisfied” from Hamilton Episode. A great dive-in into Satisfied, one of my favorite songs from the musical. Kirk does a very insightful analysis of the motifs, vocals, texture, complex rhythm, etc. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed-spotify wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Spotify Embed: &quot;Satisfied&quot; from Hamilton (Updated!)" width="100%" height="232" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" allow="encrypted-media" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed-podcast/episode/4965PAkx2TBXABJo9eZMDI?si=mhNOwe56QtKCGP217v1DVA"></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p><strong>3) HAMILTON: Why is it revolutionary?</strong> <strong>by Jaime Altozano</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<div class="nv-iframe-embed"><iframe title="HAMILTON: ¿Por qué ha sido una Revolución? Análisis Musical | Jaime Altozano" width="1200" height="675" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MploZ2urlwo?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
</div></figure>

<p>One of the more complete analyses in Spanish (but it also has English subs!). Altozano: &#8220;What I&#8217;ve tried is to give some listening patterns that might make you listen to the musical with fresh ears.&#8221;</p>

<p>3.1) In the description of the video, he also references this very cool website about a visual guide of the motifs. <a href="https://visualhamiltonmusical.wordpress.com/by-theme/">https://visualhamiltonmusical.wordpress.com/by-theme/</a></p>

<p><strong>4) Genius.com</strong> <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://t.co/4QKln0u9ml?amp=1" target="_blank">https://genius.com/albums/Original-broadway-cast-of-hamilton/Hamilton-original-broadway-cast-recording…</a>. Seriously, there is a lot of information on <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://t.co/eSZruQADav?amp=1" target="_blank">http://Genius.com</a> for each song, and many of them are co-signed by LMM. Even though it is more text-driven, some of the commentaries do reference influences to other songs or other hip-hop verses.</p>

<p>Bonus: <a href="https://twitter.com/TheHamilcast">@TheHamilcast</a> A podcast with more than 200 episodes, where they talk about &#8220;all things Hamilton including how it brings people together, how we find Ham references in everyday life and the general brilliance of the show&#8221;.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed-spotify wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Spotify Embed: The Hamilcast: A Hamilton Podcast" width="100%" height="232" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" allow="encrypted-media" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed-podcast/show/5ABIWZCcBVzhJyqOLaAl0U?si=rG30FLsZQhOI9CBdMg3UDg"></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>Bonus 2: <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://t.co/YRTEMHCQmp?amp=1" target="_blank">https://sandlerton.podbean.com</a> Sandlerton, Hamilton if it was entirely sung by Adam Sandler. Because why not.</p>

<p>As part of a final project for a Music Theory Pedagogy class, I compiled what my professor (S/O to Dr. Stephen Rodgers) called a &#8220;toolkit&#8221; for teachers. I decided to make it a blog: <a href="https://musictheoryresources.wordpress.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://musictheoryresources.wordpress.com/</a></p>

<p>It is intended to be practical, filled with advice for teaching music theory, but I am sure it could also be helpful for anyone teaching in any field.</p>

<p>There are five main categories: General Ideas, Incorporating Popular Music, Expanding the Canon, Technology in the Classroom, and Teaching Philosophy. <br>Let me know if you have any feedback or questions! The idea is to update it with new scholarship/resources every now and then.</p>
